“Water has many functions inside the human body, but the biggest function is to improve blood flow and promote metabolism. It also activates the intestinal bacterial flora and enzymes while excreting waste and toxins. Dioxins, pollutants, food additives and carcinogens are all flushed out of the body by good water. For all of these reasons people who do not drink enough good water will get sick more easily. Water moistens areas of the body where bacteria and viruses can invade most easily, such as the bronchi and gastrointestinal mucosa, the immune system is activated, making those area difficult to invade.”

Water is not created equal.
You would think that water was water - cool, refreshing, satisfying water. Unfortunately water sources vary greatly and what they have to offer is as different as the source. Water may look clean and clear, but what is actually inside may surprise you.
Investigations into municipal water sources from around the USA show that our drinking water supplies are less than desirable, containing many pharmaceutical drugs, carcinogens, waste, oil residue and many other products leaching their contents into our water supplies. While water authorities maintain a certain level of cleanliness to the water that is delivered in our pipes, they just
simply do not even test for many drugs and chemicals. The chemicals they add to clean the water, such as chlorine and flouride are dangerous in large doses. Taking a bath or shower for 15 minutes is the equivalent to drinking 8 glasses of these diluted chemicals, as the chemicals invade our open pores.
Many of us turn to bottled water instead, thinking that this water must be better for us. Again that depends upon the source. Natural spring water may be healthy and contain minerals we need, but by the time the water is cleaned and bottled it may not be. Then again, we have no idea of the purity of the source. There are hundreds of ‘natural springs’. Some sources of water are simply tap water cleansed by using an osmosis system. This is what Coke and Pepsi do. They spend millions of dollars each year convincing you to buy their products.
Water is important to keep our bodies properly hydrated. We need water to restore the fluids that surround each cell and allow for transfer of oxygen and nutrients. Water is necessary for the blood and kidneys to remove waste from our bodies. When we allow ourselves to become dehydrated we slow our bodily processes, affecting our mental and physical performance. Water is simply important to life.
Think of a plant. When it hasn’t been watered it becomes limp and sickly. When we finally do water the plant, it perks back up within a matter of minutes. When scientists look to other planets to determine if the may be habitable, they always look for a source of water. Why? We need water to survive. Water makes up 70% of our body and is part of everything we consume. It is a major source to life. We need water.
The best water for us is water with an alkaline pH. What is pH? It is a measurement of the acidic or alkaline nature of anything. 0 to 6.9 is acidic, 7 is neutral and 7.1 to 14 is alkaline. Normal pH for our bodily fluids is 7.3 to 7.5. An acidic environment leads to sickness, while an alkaline environment is healthier. Most water measures neutral on the pH scale. However, many bottled waters, even those claiming to be full of minerals, test in the acidic range.
Where do you get alkaline water? Unless you buy Evian bottled water, which has a pH of 8.0, you will probably need to make your own alkaline water these days. Machines are available that will allow you to set your pH level and will actually give the water an ionic charge. But, unless you want to spend at least $1,500 this may not be an option for you. You can also filter your water with a home filtration system, use Brita or Pur filters or start with distilled water and add alkaline drops. They are simple to use and effective.
WATER
Water is the second most important thing your body needs to live, right behind oxygen. You can live without food for weeks, but you can only survive for a few days without water. Everything in your body takes place in water. You need fluids for cellular function, to transport fuel and oxygen to the cells, to remove body waste, and to regulate your body temperature.
Our bodies are about 70% water. The bloodstream that carries nutrients, oxygen and hormones throughout the body is about 85% water. It also carries waste to the kidneys for removal. If you study the anatomy and physiology of the kidneys, you find that you need water for the kidneys to function properly to remove the waste. We need to keep our bodies hydrated to keep waste from accumulating.
The brain is about 80% water and uses about 20% of blood flow even though it accounts for only 2% of our body weight. Dehydration leaves the brain with less energy and can even lead to depression. Our cells are bathed in fluid to support the energy processes and proper functioning and transfer of nutrients, oxygen and cellular waste. Water is simply the best source of hydration.
Besides all of the other functions of water in our bodies, water helps maintain blood pressure and is important to keep our pH levels at optimum levels. Water itself is close to neutral on the pH scale, helping us maintain a slightly alkaline pH.
If you want beautiful, smooth skin you must keep hydrated. Water will keep your cells functioning, helps conduct the electrical charge of energy at the cellular level and is important in cooling us on a hot day and preventing sunburns. There are so many reasons to drink plenty of water.
Hydrated cells are healthy cells. A well hydrated cell is efficient at the transfer of oxygen and nutrients and disposing of toxins and wastes. If you experience thirst your body has already experienced hydration. You should be hydrating with water regularly throughout the day.
Coffee, caffeinated tea, sodas, juice from concentrate and beer are not water. Though water may be a component to the production of these drinks, they have a diuretic effect, causing the body to lose water. We already lose water through sweat, breathing, urine and waste removal. We don’t need to cause additional fluid loss. In addition, these drinks are highly acidic and slow down metabolic functions.
Drugs can have a negative affect on water concentrations. When I took high blood pressure medicine it caused my body to deplete potassium and thus retain water, increasing my blood pressure. The doctor then prescribed a water pill and potassium pill to remove the water to lower my blood pressure and restore potassium. If I didn’t take medicine in the first place, but supplemented my potassium intake it seems it would have kept my blood pressure regular naturally. I could avoid three pills daily. No wonder the drug companies make a fortune. If you take one you may have to take more to counter the side effects.
How much water should you drink daily? Half of your body weight in ounces is a good start. That means if you weigh 150 pounds you should drink 75 ounces of water throughout the day. That amounts to drinking 5 of the 16-oz packaged plastic water bottles daily. There are many articles out there about the carcinogens in plastic bottles leaching into the water, especially when left in the heat, such as a car. If this concerns you, you may purchase safe containers at many stores. Since these are reusable you will be acting environmentally too.
Many people say you should drink the water at room temperature, or only drink distilled water because it has no impurities. There is no statistical data to support drinking room temperature water for any health benefits. I have found that water filtered through my home filtration system or a Brita filter is better than most bottled water in purity, especially since reverse osmosis water is on the acidic side of the pH scale.
When using this program it is very important to drink plenty of water. The more water you can drink daily, the easier it is for your body to re-create an alkaline balance to your body fluids. The first few days will require more restroom visits and maybe some loose stools, but it passes after a few days as your system adjusts. If you sweat more from summer heat or exercise, you may want to replenish the fluids lost with more water.
Alkaline Water
Now that we have established that we should drink more water, consider changing your water to alkaline water. We already know that water has a neutral pH. Well, most water. Many bottled waters have a pH of 6.0 or 6.5, giving us a disadvantage in maintaining alkaline pH levels. But, what if we change the pH to 8.0 or even 9.5? By alkalizing water we give our bodies a head start in balancing pH. Balanced pH will lead to reduced metabolic waste material, flushing of acid in our bodies (including acid stored in fat) and restoring and maintaining a healthy body.
The next step beyond just alkalizing water is to ionize the water. Alkaline ionized water is charged with negative ions that attract the positively charged ions of acidic waste and neutralize them. Our bodies are bio-electric living machines that absorb charged water more easily than just regular water. The measurement of the electron activity of this charged water is called the Oxidative Reduction Potential (ORP). Charged water permeates the cell walls effectively hydrating cells and moving oxygen efficiently.
How do I do this you ask? When I started the program I relied upon using alkaline drops to alkalize my water and only ate alkaline foods. I accomplished my goal of being drug free in 45 days. Since then I have learned about various ionizing machines that allow you to set the pH and ORP of your water, starting from just tap water. These are great. Besides creating alkaline ionized charged water with oxygen clusters, there are many uses for the acidic water that can be created, including natural pesticides (chemical free). At $1,500 to $4,000 these machines can be expensive.
I actually use an alternative ionizer using drops. These cost about $30 per 25 gallons. Depending upon how much you drink this method can be much more cost effective. Rather than relying on the minerals in the water before it is ionized, this method adds 72 different healthy minerals that not only alkalize the water to a pH of 9.5, but also ionize and charge the water, giving you the benefit of the added minerals.
